I apologize for the radio silence as of late, there are a lot of changes in the Riley household coming so I’ve been a little busy preparing for the future. That being said, the Tom Horn Episode will be coming shortly! As usual, his life is exciting and I think y’all will enjoy hearing about it.
For the main podcast, I have not yet even begun to read for the remainder of the Apache series. I sorta hit a wall… even before we got the big news. This is the longest break I’ve taken since I began over three years ago. But as usual, the itch is beginning to return and the hunger for more podcast reading and writing is upon me.
In the meantime, my in-laws moved down the street and my parents bought a house in ABQ proper. Both of these events could not have come at a more appropriate time.
In other news, while taking my break from non-fiction, I read my first fiction novels since I began this podcast in 2021. That’s not quite true, I read the newest and quite weak Bond 007 book a couple years ago but I only just now remembered. That’s how memorable it wasn’t. But reading the two Elmore Leonard novels I knocked out in a couple days each reminded me that I myself have a fiction novel i’ve been working on for a decade at this point.
Over the last two weekends I began again in earnest to sit down and force myself to write. The results have been, not to toot my horn here but… quite good. I am very proud of it so far.
If any one of my Roadrunners are interested in a little fiction, y’all get the novel for free before I publish it and make millions of dollars from its sale… wishful thinking.
The novel takes place in 1953 and it follows a tumultuous year in the life of a southern motorcycle ridin’ bank robber as he travels from Missouri where a heist went wrong to the west. He travels through Cheyenne, Denver, Santa Fe, and ultimately to Ruidoso, New Mexico where he’s forced to make a decision: rob the local race track Ruidoso Downs or lose everything. Only problem is, robbing the track may result in losing everything anyways.
Thank y’all for subscribing and supporting me and I promise more content is coming soon!
Almost like a 1950s Jesse James out west it sounds like!
Glad life is going so well for you! Family always comes first. I don't know how you even have time to do this to do this while working a full time job. I definitely don't have the willpower. And for the record, I would definitely read your book, provided there is an audiobook to accompany it.
